Top 5 moments in the Joker Teaser Trailer!

We finally get a teaser trailer from the highly anticipated Joker movie staring Joaquin Phoenix from director Todd Phillips.

All I can say is wow! I can’t believe what they are doing to this movie. I had to remind myself that this is only a teaser trailer. But, the whole teaser was well done. Coming to theaters on October 4, 2019.

In the trailer we see that it is indeed Todd Phillip’s take on the Joker’s origin story. We see Arthur Fleck’s transition from a regular working man to the classic villain we all know and love. The mental disorder and eeriness of the Joker’s character shines throughout.

It’s established with one of my favorite quotes in the trailer “my mother always told me to smile and put on a happy face” as the camera pans with Arthur bathing his mother. You feel bad for Arthur when seeing his current state before turning in a villain. He stumbled many times in the trailer, some strangers on the train punched him, while he was working in his clown attire some strangers took his sign and beat him with it, and we see him as a loner mostly. The official synopsis according to Imbd “A failed stand-up comedian is driven insane and becomes a psychopathic murderer.”

5.) Nod to Traditional Joker Make-Up/Physical appearance.

The trailer also nods to a lot of the traditional Joker make up. The green hair and white face paint! Also, when Arthur stretches out his smile could hint how he got his permanent face damage from in the film.

One scene in particular that caught my attention is Joaquin Phoenix’s ability to contort! At 0:40 you see his contorting in his workplace by the locker room. It is creepy and impressive. This definitely shows a lot without saying anything, that the future of Arthur’s is in danger. His mental health is not good and he needs the help that he might not be willing to take. The thinness and lankiness is what makes the Joker the Joker. It seems like Phoenix did a great job prepping for this role.

4.) Robert De Niro’s nod to his past character in “King of Comedy”

Robert De Niro can be glimpsed in the latest trailer as a TV talk show host named Murray Franklin. This is an ode to De Niro’s character in “King of Comedy.” Which has similarities to Joker’s performance side.

3.) Arkham Hospital

We also got a shot of Arkham Hospital. Known to Batman comic fans as Arkham Asylum where he will be administered as a patient! Pretty cool that we get to see this in a movie. This film indeed will be a tragedy about a man that is tortured by his own mind. It will serve as a true origin story.

2.) Thomas Wayne, father of Bruce Wayne makes an appearance.

Joker Movie Trailer Breakdown Analysis - Thomas Wayne

We see Arthur looking intensely at the television where it is speculated that is is Thomas Wayne, the father of Bruce Wayne. In the trailer we see Gotham becoming a shambled place in the 80’s and people protesting. Something inside Arthur must have flipped the switch and possibly be the one to murder Bruce’s parents?

1.) Bruce Wayne makes an appearance, connecting the origin story to the Batman Universe.

Then, at 1:47 we see Arthur stretching out his arms through closed gates toward a young boy. Could this possibly be young Bruce Wayne? and the closed gates is the Wayne Manor? makes the most sense if the parents of Bruce’s are currently alive from the previous scene of Arthur watching Thomas Wayne give a speech on television.

  1. Whaaa! I didn’t even think of young Bruce, amazing.

People keep saying ‘I don’t know if I can watch a Joker film without Batman’ but I was always replying… don’t count him out completely. Even more so after we see Arkham.

This is going to be amazing. I can’t work out what the hell is going on with his arms in that shot of him in a locker room either, freaky but makes sense for the character.

I had a lot of hope for this film, especially with Joaquin in there, and now I’m even more hyped.

    1. Yes! The whole scene with a young Bruce Wayne makes sense. I rewatched it a few times and it looks like Arthur could be stalking the Wayne family.

Exactly!! I read some people say that and I’m like, seeing the origin of characters is interesting and we clearly saw the shot of Arkham! It’s definitely connected to the batman universe especially since it’s in the 80’s time zone.

I think this is going to be amazing too! The hype is very real. It’s so creepy that he is contorting! Very freaky. I can’t believe he is bending like that 😂 makes sense for the eeriness of the character.

Yes! I have extreme high hope for this film. I’m so excited. Joaquin is going to surprise everyone’s expectations.

      1. It’s funny, a lot of people say he’s ‘underrated’ but that’s not true at all, it’s just he picks very specific characters and stories, and now a LOT more will get to see how bloody good he is. Fantastic!

      2. Yeah I was reading that as well. He is definitely not underrated he just knows what roles he is looking for. People who don’t know much about him will want to check his career out immediately.
